New CCAS Website is Up and Running

CCAS has a new website! The web address is www.ccasociety.org. The website may be accessed directly at this address or via a link on the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) web page www.pedsanesthesia.org. A large amount of work went into developing the new website and Kim Battle and Ray Hall at SPA headquarters deserve a huge THANK YOU for making this happen! Kim and the support staff are outstanding in their commitment to our society and facilitating its growth and development.

The new website is much easier to use with clear navigation buttons on the left hand side of the page. These should make it much easier and quicker to locate the information you are trying to find, whether it is a previous newsletter or details about future meetings. There is an increased emphasis on benefits for CCAS members. It is now possible for members to access material from prior meetings as well as a growing number of lectures. The current lecture series consists of 12 lectures that cover the basics of congenital cardiac anesthesiology. This lecture series is dynamic – if you have a better one, send it to me and I will replace the current one! If there is content that you think is inaccurate, let me know.

Finally, if you have a favorite talk you like to give, why not share it with other members in the society? We all know that preparing talks takes considerable time and effort in order to do well. If we adopt a collective learning approach then the burden is less on each of us and we may all learn something new! I hope to add one or two lectures a month to the lecture series. Hopefully this will prove a useful teaching resource for members.

So, next time you have a patient on cardiopulmonary bypass with an anesthesia fellow in the operating room, log on to the CCAS website and go through a presentation with your fellow! Use the lecture content as a framework to discuss a case or a particular topic and direct your fellows to the website so that they can access the lectures in their own time. In addition to the lecture series we will soon post an ‘Echocardiogram Image’ with an accompanying discussion, every quarter. Again, use this as a teaching resource with pediatric anesthesia fellows.

Any society is only as strong as its collective membership and CCAS relies on its members to actively participate to help shape our developing specialty. Consider getting involved by writing an article for the newsletter, sending in a lecture or interesting echocardiogram image and of course, attending CCAS meetings. We are a small society and our greatest resource is each other.
